Donald F. Sloane, LCSW, Director of the Center for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, St. Louis, Inc., has had over 30 years of clinical experience and has been using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) since 1982. A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, he was the coordinator of out-patient and in-patient programs at Jewish Hospital’s Behavioral Medicine Center from 1982 to 1987. During this time, Don specialized in relaxation training, biofeedback, and cognitive behavioral treatment of a variety of stress and pain related disorders including chronic headaches, back pain, Raynaud's disease, irritable bowel syndrome, as well as depression related to kidney disease and diabetes.
He specializes currently in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders. His work with a phobic patient was recognized in Newsweek, May 1986. Between 1987 and 1997 he divided his private practice between his West County office and consulting with a group of psychiatrists at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. During the 1990s, Don attended a half dozen trainings through the Center for Cognitive Therapy, Huntington Beach, CA, under the guidance of Christine Padesky, Ph.D., co-author of Mind Over Mood. In addition, for 17 years, from 1990 through 2006, Don taught several courses on Cognitive and Behavior Therapy at the George Warren School of Social Work, Washington University in St. Louis.
Don has a great interest in Mindfulness training, from both the Eastern and Western perspectives. In addition to his experience in behavioral medicine, Don has practiced meditation and yoga techniques since 1969. For a number of years, Don has been consulting and training in CBT for companies, hospitals, and mental health treatment centers. Between 2008-2015, Don traveled extensively throughout the U.S. training therapists in CBT and Mindfulness. He was invited by PESI to give over 150 full-day presentations to over 7,500 professionals.
